Olivia Barry, the New York–based artist behind Olivia Barry / By Hand, is featured in Artful Living, "Inside Artist Olivia Barry's Creative World.”
A big thanks to writer Rosie Kelly who touched on so many things unique to Barry: her path from discovering the pottery studio as a young person to a career spanning industrial design and fine ceramics — including her early work producing wheel-thrown lamp bases for Robert A.M. Stern Architects, her apprenticeship with legendary designer Eva Zeisel, and her collaborations and commissions that span Nambé, Royal Stafford, Crate & Barrel, The Rug Company, and MoMA.
Now working out of her Hudson Valley studio, Barry designs sculptural lighting and ceramic artwork that hide their function in plain sight — pieces like her original Scroll lamp, built to eliminate the need for a traditional shade altogether.
